Tackling Global Challenges

Race4Rwanda: Instead of spreading ourselves too thin with a disperse and diluted corporate giving program, Liquidnet For Good™ focuses on one major global challenge at a time by devoting a range of resources to address it. Through Race4Rwanda, Liquidnet is driving global awareness about our signature partnership: the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV).

The ASYV is an innovative and comprehensive approach to dealing with the unique needs of traumatized youth in the developing world. Agahozo is Rwandan for “a place where tears dry” and Shalom is Hebrew for “peace.” Based on an Israeli model that initially served orphans from the Holocaust, the ASYV is a response to the 1994 Rwandan genocide and the first project to bring the concept of a youth village to Africa.

The kids living there are absolutely amazing. Despite going through horrific experiences, they are incredibly hardworking and hopeful for their future. This unique project has a real impact on the lives of the orphans who call it home and offers hope across Rwanda.

Employees and their family members have been supporting the ASYV in a variety of ways, from building a wireless internet network at the rural location to collecting donations of supplies to send to the village to taking part in the New York City Triathlon to raise awareness. Over 30 employees or their family members have travelled to Rwanda to volunteer directly for the project, and hundreds more have volunteered back at the office.

Conflict Prevention: Liquidnet believes that a global company plays a role not only in responding to the after-effects of conflict such as the Rwandan genocide, but also in conflict prevention.

We support the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) movement, which holds that the global community must protect citizens when a state fails to fulfill this obligation. Liquidnet For Good™ partners with the International Crisis Group, which works to prevent and resolve deadly conflicts around the world, and the Genocide Prevention Project, which focuses on public education and advocacy.

Also, when natural disasters devastate communities around the world, Liquidnet For Good™ identifies respected humanitarian relief agencies who can take action and provide for the needs of the people affected.

Environmental Sustainability: Liquidnet strives to minimize our environmental impact as much as possible to ensure future generations can enjoy this world just as much as we do.

A Green Team of employees promotes actions and policies that are good for the environment, which is good for all of us. For example, as a technology-driven company, we've worked to make sure our data centers are as energy efficient as possible. Every April 22nd we celebrate Earth Day and encourage employees to take steps in their own lives to be environmentally sustainable. Our very own Captain Green raises awareness about how we can live green.
