Liquidnet, the global institutional trading network, will be honored this evening at the 5th annual “Stand Up & Be Counted” benefit event hosted by the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV), a community devoted to educating and nurturing 500 orphaned and vulnerable teenagers in Rwanda. The ASYV is the global charitable partner of Liquidnet For Good, the company’s corporate impact program that leverages Liquidnet’s resources in pursuit of a better world.
Since 2006, hundreds of Liquidnet employees, family members, and friends – through a pro bono network called the Liquidnet Family – have contributed their time, resources, and passion to help turn the idea for a youth village to care for Rwandan orphans into a reality. The village opened its doors in December 2008 and graduated its first class of students in January 2013.
The Liquidnet Family helped create the initial strategic plan for the village, served on countless organizing committees, raised funds and awareness, and engaged in many skill-based volunteer trips to Rwanda. Over 60 Liquidnet employees and family members have travelled to Rwanda to lend their expertise to the project –by building a wireless internet network, installing computer labs, setting up accounting systems, and providing capacity-building leadership training for the local Rwandan staff.
For over four years, teams of employees have also trained for months to take on challenging races like the NYC Triathlon to raise money and awareness for the project through an effort called “Race for Rwanda.” In total, Liquidnet has contributed over $7.5 million to the project and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars through its Race for Rwanda endurance event series.
“Our vision for the village was to create a community that would provide a holistic nurturing environment that provides for family and security along with housing, education, and medical services to children who have been through unimaginable trauma. Realizing this vision would not have been possible without the support and involvement of the Liquidnet Family and it is with great pride that we recognize them at our annual ‘Stand Up & Be Counted’ event,” commented Anne Heyman, founder of the ASYV.
“Liquidnet’s model of extending beyond employees and creating a family of supporters mirrors our approach in Rwanda. We believe joining forces yields unlimited potential for social change and are proud to have a partner that shares our vision,” Heyman continued.

Liquidnet is the global institutional trading network that connects equity investors with the liquidity they need. We go beyond what the retail market can provide by defending and securing the integrity and the anonymity of the block trade. We do this while continuously looking for ways to bring in new sources of safe, actionable liquidity from asset management firms, exchanges, brokers and corporations. Since we launched in 2001, our ability to anticipate and meet institutional demand has allowed us to extend trading to 42 equity markets across five continents for asset management firms who collectively manage US$12.4 trillion.
